Season 13 of CBS’s “Blue Bloods” is about to air its final episode this month, and we can’t help but reflect on the previous season and the incredible interviews we received during it!!
Will Estes sat down with Looper during Season 12 to talk about working with the legendary Tom Selleck and the show’s longevity.
He revealed:
“I think it’s slightly ethereal that the show is still running.” There are some great shows that didn’t last long — some of my favorite shows, in fact, didn’t last long. So there’s got to be a little bit of luck and kismet in there somewhere. But I believe what distinguishes us from other procedurals is that we aren’t really a procedural. We have a lot of procedural elements, but I think we’re more of a character-driven drama.
Our show is more concerned with how these characters’ personal lives affect their work, as well as how their work affects their personal lives, inter-familial relationships, and friendships. So it kind of lives and breathes in that space as a drama, which contributes to its longevity, along with Tom Selleck’s performance as the consummate leader, commissioner, and patriarch of the family. I think people want to see Tom, and then we have a great cast, great writers, and a great crew.”
Regarding his collaboration with Tom, he stated:
“It’s fantastic. It’s funny, Tom isn’t all that different from the commissioner. He is truly professional. He’s very well-educated. He knows his character inside and out, and he contributes significantly in small ways to the scenes in which he appears. When you arrive on set, you know you’re working with someone who has done their homework, is professional, and executes every scene flawlessly. So you have to be on your toes when working with him, which is a lot of fun.”
Tom Selleck, Donnie Wahlberg, Bridget Moynahan, Will Estes, Len Cariou, Marisa Ramirez, and Vanessa Ray star in Blue Bloods. Abigail Hawk, Gregory Jbara, Robert Clohessy, Steven Schirripa, Will Hochman, Rosyln Ruff, Ian Quinlan, Stacy Keach, Peter Hermann, and Stephanie Kurtzuba are among the regulars. The Reagans are a multigenerational family of New York City cops who are dedicated to law enforcement. Frank Reagan (Selleck), the family patriarch, is the New York Police Commissioner and runs his department as diplomatically as he runs his family.
Henry (Cariou), his unapologetically bold father, previously served as Chief. Danny (Wahlberg), a seasoned detective, family man, and Iraq War vet, is a source of pride and concern for Frank. Danny occasionally employs dubious methods to solve cases with his partner, Detective Maria Baez (Ramirez). Erin (Moynahan), Frank’s daughter, works as an Assistant District Attorney in New York. Jamie (Estes), Frank’s youngest child, is a Harvard Law graduate and the family’s “golden boy.” He foregoes a lucrative legal career to follow in his family’s footsteps as a cop. Jamie’s wife, Eddie Janko (Ray), is a fellow officer.
