Eddie Janko’s (played by Vanessa Ray) job could be on the line following a violent encounter in the next episode of Blue Bloods.

The CBS drama will once again tackle New York’s complicated attitudes towards the police when Eddie finds herself in the middle of a protest in season 13 episode 19, Fire Drill.

An official synopsis reads: “Jamie Reagan (Will Estes) partners with the FDNY to find the arsonist responsible for a massive fire at an NYPD evidence storage facility.

“Eddie asks Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck) to put her on modified duty following her divisive arrest of an anti-cop protestor at a rally.”

While her husband deals with the fallout of a huge disaster, Eddie faces disciplinary action after allegedly harming an angry activist.

The show’s latest teaser trailer reveals Eddie getting pushed before the footage cuts to the protestor lying on the ground and crying in pain.

Back in Frank’s office, he asks his daughter-in-law: “Did you use excessive force?”

Eddie doesn’t reply in the new clip but she’s clearly weighing up the situation and the episode itself could reveal the encounter was more violent than it looks.

However, Frank will clearly be reluctant to punish his daughter-in-law to avoid letting his family develop a bad reputation.

He’s already caught in a battle with the city’s progressive Mayor Peter Chase (Dylan Walsh), who’ll spring at any opportunity to take the Reagans down a peg.

Plus, the new synopsis reveals Eddie is the one who will actually request modified duty, perhaps over Frank’s wishes.

If the Mayor or other higher-ups within the NYPD catch wind that Frank wasn’t able to deal out the proper punishment, both their jobs could be in trouble over the rest of the season.

Thankfully, Blue Bloods rarely drops massive twists like the loss of a job on the audience, especially midway through the season.

Even so, the series was recently renewed for a 14th season, and the next episode could potentially be the first of an ongoing arc for Eddie as the year goes on.

In the latest episode, Family Matters, Frank already put his own job at risk after yet another clash with Mayor Chase.

Following a wave of new immigrants to the city, he disputed the mayor’s demands to post his police officers as protection.

If the mayor discovers he has been keeping Eddie’s job safe despite her man-handling a protestor, he could start to cause some serious trouble for the Reagans in the weeks ahead.

Blue Bloods season 13 continues Fridays on CBS in the USA and the following Mondays on Sky Witness in the UK.
