Does Blue Bloods Grim Update Mean Season 14 Will Be The Show’s Last?

From the looks of the latest reports from various networks and studios, the economic crisis hasn’t gone unnoticed by the entertainment industry, and everyone is trying to cut their budgets.

Unfortunately, this can mean a lot of goodbyes for fans of shows, series, and even movie franchises that are not as profitable as their competition.

This time around, Blue Bloods fans can breathe a sigh of relief: their favorite show has been renewed for its 14th season. That’s quite an accomplishment in itself, considering how many years it’s been on the air.

The news was bittersweet, however, as it was revealed that the show got the green light at the cost of a 25% pay cut for everyone from the cast to the producers.

While the decision to keep the show on the air for at least one more season by cutting its profits is admirable, fans are still worried about the future of Blue Bloods. Such news could easily be an indicator that the show is coming to an end.

“Though it wasn’t announced this way, my guess is that this upcoming season will likely be the last. That the stars had to take pretty significant pay cuts just to keep the show going for another season is telling, and I’m guessing not something they’re likely to be agreeable to do again,” Redditor hannahsflora said, and many seem to agree with this statement.

Despite its good ratings and even better time slot (it’s hard to compete with Friday nights), Blue Bloods may have simply become too expensive to produce.

The good news is that even if season 14 marks the end of the show, the writers still have a chance to give it a proper finale instead of ending it abruptly and leaving the audience without answers.

You can tune in to watch Blue Bloods on CBS on Fridays at 10/9 Central Time.
