Since 2010, fans have been entertained by CBS’s cop drama “Blue Bloods,” which is set and filmed in New York City. The show, which revolves around the Reagan family and their various ties to law enforcement, stars Tom Selleck as police commissioner Frank Reagan, as well as Donnie Wahlberg, Will Estes, and Bridget Moynahan as his three children, who work as a detective, police officer, and prosecutor, respectively. “Blue Bloods” has already surpassed the 200-episode mark, and while the C0V1D 19 pand3mic caused some production hiccups, Season 12 finally premiered on October 1 and is already generating buzz among fans.
Fans are divided on whether or not a romantic relationship between Danny Reagan (Wahlberg) and Maria Baez (Marisa Ramirez) is on the verge of blossoming. The two characters have known each other for a long time, and the coworkers-turning-lovers trope is common in popular network television. Not all fans, however, are on board with the SS Dannaez romantic ship — and they have some compelling reasons for opposing this hypothetical couple.
Even the show’s creators agree that Baez and Danny should not date.
In recent weeks, one Reddit thread has gained a lot of attention. “Am I the only one who doesn’t want to see Danny and Baez get together?” asked user r/Powerful Factor1887, sparking a heated debate among fans. There are a few dissenters who think Baez and Danny would be great together, but the majority strongly disagree. They want to keep things professional because of their age difference, the fact that a similar storyline was already done with Jamie (Will Estes) and Eddie (Vanessa Ray), and their admiration for the two characters’ platonic relationship.
According to an interview with TV Insider, it appears that the anti-shippers will get their wish. When writer and showrunner Kevin Wade mentioned how little “real estate” exists in re-hashing that trope within the same show, especially between Baez and Danny, all hopes were dashed. “There really aren’t stories in happy couples,” he said, implying that the happily-ever-after storyline that some fans crave would be a snooze fest in subsequent seasons. It could be a neat little bow to tie up their story as a series finale storyline. But, with no end in sight for the show, this may not be the right time — if there ever is a “right” time — for these characters to meet.
