‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Is Sonny Going To Retire?

Throughout the sixty years ‘General Hospital’ has been on the air, few characters have made an impact like Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard). In fact, many fans have stated they believe when he leaves the show, that’ll be the end of it.

While that may or may not be true, Maurice is getting closer to the end of his career. He talked about it with Eric Braeden on his “State of Mind” podcast.

During their talk, Eric stated he’s been over it for years while Maurice is just getting there, but does he have to leave the show?

‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Sonny in retirement

It’s been hinted lately on the show that Sonny may consider retiring from the mob life and settling down. It’s something that doesn’t happen often, and in fact, only one gangster is known to actually retire and live.

And he was the basis for Vito Corleone (Marlon Brando) in “The Godfather.”

It’d make sense that Sonny will grow tired of fighting and protecting his territory and want to enjoy the rest of his life, but there is the problem about who would take his place.

With Michael Corinthos (Chad Duell) obsessed with bringing him down and Dex Heller (Evan Hofer) being Michael’s right hand in this, the pickings are slim.

This would be a great way for them to bring Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) back, but if Steve’s unavailable they could bring back Billy Miller to reprise the role as he was Jason in 2014 to 2017.

Of course, there is another option.

‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Michael’s plan works

There’s the possibility that Michael’s plan will work and he’ll manage to bring Sonny down. It’s a long shot, but with Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy)’s hatred for Sonny matching his, we don’t see him halting it anytime soon.

He’s had a few chances, but his need to hurt Sonny has won out each time.

If he does succeed, then Sonny will go to prison for a long time, and there will be a power void in Port Charles.

Like we mentioned above, there’s no one in Sonny’s organization that can take over at the moment. There is another possibility that Selina Wu (Lydia Look) will step in and take over Sonny’s territory.

She could treat it like she’ll take care of it for him until he’s out of prison, but it won’t work that way.

In the end, Sonny retiring seems like the most likely possibility, assuming that’s in the plans.
