Nicholas Alexander Chavez is spreading his acting wings.

Nicholas Alexander Chavez has been cast in an upcoming prime-time series that is sure to introduce the Daytime Emmy and Soap Hub Award-winning actor to a whole new audience beyond General Hospital. He’ll be playing a real-life convicted murderer in the next installment of the Ryan Murphy series Monster.

Nicholas Alexander Chavez Plays Lyle Menendez

Deadline reports that Chavez will play Lyle Menendez, who, along with his younger brother Erik Menendez was convicted in 1996 for the murder of their parents, José and Mary Louise “Kitty” Menéndez. Erik is set to be played by Cooper Koch, who appeared in 2019’s Less Than Zero.

“A huge congratulations to @nicholasachavez for landing this incredible role!” tweeted Nathan Varni, Executive Director Current Programming at ABC. “The entire @GeneralHospital family couldn’t be more proud!!”

Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez S tory is the second season of Monsters. Murphy launched the Netflix series last year with a look at serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer (played by Evan Peters). The series also starred Niecy Nash (The Rookie: Feds) as Glenda Cleveland.

A Compelling Story

This isn’t the first time the Menendez brothers’ story has made it to the screen. In fact, there were two TV-movies that dramatized the case in 1994. Menendez: A Killing in Beverly Hills starred Edward James Olmos as José and Beverly D’Angelo as Kitty. In another scripted take on the real-life double murder, Billy Warlock (ex-Frankie, Days of our Lives) played Lyle Menendez in Honor Thy Father and Mother: The True Story of the Menendez Murders. In 2017, Miles Gaston Villanueva (ex-Lucas Santori, The Young and the Restless) was cast as Lyle in Dick Wolf’s Law & Order: True Crime.

Despite the violent nature of the Jeffrey Dahmer story, the Netflix story based on his life, the gruesome murders he committed, and his victims rose to the number-one spot on Netflix in the first week of its release. It was Netflix’s ninth most popular-English language TV show of all time — 56 million households have viewed all 10 episodes.

There’s no word yet on how taking on the role of Lyle Menendez in this limited series will affect Nicholas Alexander Chavez and his shooting schedule at GH. Soap Hub will bring details on that as soon as they become available.
