A veteran actor on NCIS expresses interest in the upcoming Tony and Ziva spinoff show, even sharing how his character could make a cameo.

NCIS actor Rocky Carroll says that he wants to cameo in the upcoming Tony and Ziva spinoff. The long-running procedural drama, which is one of the most popular franchises produced by CBS Studios, will continue in several forms. After it was announced that original star Mark Harmon would return to narrate and executive produce a Gibbs-focused prequel called NCIS: Origins for CBS, it was revealed that Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo are reprising their respective fan-favorite roles as Tony DiNozzo and Ziva for a Paramount+ show.

During a conversation with TV Insider, Carroll shared that he recently did a podcast with Weatherly and de Pablo. The actor, who plays Leon Vance on NCIS, mentions that he’d be open to appearing in the upcoming Tony and Ziva spinoff. In the quote below, Vance even pitches a funny scenario for a potential cameo:

It’s funny you should mention it. I just did a podcast with Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo, and we had a chat about that, and I said, ‘Who knows? Sometimes the director may need to come in and check in on you kids because you’re on the other side of the world here. That would be kind of fun. Video check-in would be nice. I’d like to see their faces when Vance just walks into the room.

The Spinoff Will Have A Relationship Focus

Weatherly and De Pablo are on course to share the screen for the first time in a decade, returning to their popular NCIS roles. Consisting of ten episodes, The Magicians showrunner and Trumbo writer John McNamara will pen the script. Weatherly, De Pablo, and McNamara are all also executive producers. According to reports, the spinoff is currently titled NCIS: Europe and is set to begin production later this year. After Ziva’s supposed death in the main NCIS show, Tony left the team to raise their daughter.

Years later, however, Ziva is discovered alive. This leads her to complete one final mission before she’s reunited with Tony and their daughter in Paris. In the upcoming Paramount+ spinoff, Tony and Ziva have been raising their daughter, Tali, together. But when Tony’s security company is attacked, the couple find themselves on the run in Europe. They try to fight out the culprit, learning to trust each other again in hopes of finally getting their happy ending.

It’s unknown whether the high-profile spinoff will feature cameos from franchise veterans. But in his role as Leon Vance, Carroll is a good candidate to make an appearance. Vance first appears in NCIS season 5 as the assistant director. He’s then named to the role of director following the death of Jenny Shepard (Lauren Holly). Considering his long history, it could be useful for the upcoming series to call on the veteran actor for a cameo and fully connect the new series with the past. That’s particularly true after the NCIS 1000th episode celebration.
