Josh Kelly Explains Why Cody Lied To Mac On GENERAL HOSPITAL

Viewers were pretty confident that when the DNA test results came back, they would prove that Mac is Cody’s father on GENERAL HOSPITAL. However, while that did, in fact, turn out to be the case, Cody lied and told Mac that they weren’t related after all, a decision he has since come to regret.

“The way that I’ve kind of interpreted it is that there’s a whole lot of pressure to be Mac’s son,” Josh Kelly explained in a recent issue of Soap Opera Digest, “because everyone thinks that Mac is the greatest guy ever. Cody never really had a father but it would be a lot easier for him to think that he is the way he is because his genetic father was a terrible person. If Mac is his father, then it’s more on him that he is the way he is — he can’t blame his genes!”

Another reason for the lie was so that Cody would be able to claim ownership of the necklace containing the Ice Princess diamonds since it previously belonged to the man he’d thought was his father, Leopold Taub. However, when that all fell apart along with his budding relationship with Britt, Cody began to realize he’d made a terrible mistake lying to Mac.

“He already felt really bad about lying to Britt and lying to Mac,” Kelly admitted. “He just feels like he’s losing and losing and losing. To him, the necklace was more than just the money, it was him having something of importance that would make him feel important. He’s never felt like he’s really had anything of his own.”

With the priceless necklace presumably destroyed, Cody could now reveal the true results of the DNA test. However, would he be able to explain the lie to Mac in such a way that he’d still accept Cody as his son?

“This is a tough one for Cody because he feels like he’s not meant to have a good life,” Kelly confided. “He feels like he’s not allowed to have nice things. And he’s in a tough spot with Mac. I don’t think he feels like he can come clean, and so he’s just kind of lamenting his decisions.”
