NCIS Fans Outraged By CBS’ Latest Move: ‘Unfair To Rob Us’

While the stars of NCIS and its spin-offs are on strike, CBS’ latest move is making some fans upset. The NCIS: Hawai’i Instagram account vanished without warning, leading some viewers to ask, is NCIS: Hawai’i canceled? Here’s whether the show is ending after Los Angeles’ heartbreaking cancellation.

NCIS: Hawaiʻi is a CBS crime drama and the fourth spin-off in the NCIS franchise. The Hawaiian island-based series follows Jane Tennant (Vanessa Lachey) and her team of special agents from the Naval Criminal Investigative Service in Hawaii. The team is responsible for investigating incidents relating to military and national security. The show also stars Alex Tarrant, Yasmine Al-Bustami, Tori Anderson, Noah Mills, Jason Antoon and Kian Talan.

NCIS: Hawaiʻi premiered in September 2021 and wrapped up its second season in May. In February 2023, our sister publication Deadline reported that NCIS: Hawaiʻi was renewed for a third season by CBS for 2023-2024. Because of ongoing writers’ and actors’ strikes, the drama was pushed from CBS’ fall schedule and is now expected to air sometime in 2024 (depending on how long the strikes last).

When NCIS: Hawai’i does return, NCIS: Los Angeles fans will see a familiar face on their TV screens. CBS revealed in May 2023 that LL Cool J (aka Sam Hannah on NCIS: LA) will be moving to NCIS: Hawai’i for the show’s third season on a recurring guest basis. Los Angeles was cancelled in January 2023 and ended with Season 14 in May.

“Couldn’t keep Sam Hanna off the case for too long!! Starting tonight, Sam Hanna will join forces with the @NCISHawaiiCBS team as a recurring guest star in the upcoming third season,” LL Cool J penned in the May 2023 Twitter post, which was accompanied by a photo of him and Vanessa Lachey, who stars in Hawai’i.

But when the Instagram accounts for the NCIS spin-offs, including NCIS: Hawai’i disappeared, some fans feared the worst.

Is NCIS: Hawai’i canceled?

Is NCIS: Hawai’i canceled? The answer is no! NCIS: Hawai’i is not cancelled and is slated to premiere sometime in 2024 or after the strikes conclude. However, fans were initially worried about the future of the spin-off when the Instagram accounts for Los Angeles, New Orleans and Hawai’i unexpectedly disappeared.

Shortly after, the main NCIS page (which now has the username @NCISverse) posted an announcement about what happened. “It’s NCIS — open up. Welcome to the new home of all things #NCISverse. Stay a while. You’ll like it here. #NCIS #NCISHawaii #NCISLA #NCISNOLA.”

It looks like the main NCIS page will serve as the central location for all things NCIS, including the show’s spin-offs. Some fans were not pleased with the fact that the individual show accounts were deleted – and thus all of its content. “Why on God’s green earth would you deactivate the other accounts and all that history?” one Instagram user asked. “wait so this is why the other accounts are gone? why not just leave them as an archive or something?” another person commented.

Some viewers expressed how much they missed NCIS: Los Angeles (and New Orleans, which ended in 2021), and said that getting rid of the spin-off’s Instagram page only made things worse. “So after ending the best TV show ever NCISLA you now end NCISLA account . Thanks for that it’s great to know how you really feel about the FANS,” another penned. “Are you reposting all the content that @ncisla shared over the years? It’s a bit unfair to rob us of that when we’ve already lost the show itself.”

In August 2023, past and present stars of NCIS, NCIS: Hawai’i, NCIS: Los Angeles and NCIS: New Orleans came together to support the ongoing actors’ strike. In the star-studded photo, members of the four bureaus were photographed on the picket lines of the SAG-AFTRA strike. The group selfie was taken and shared by LA’s Daniela Ruah (Special Agent Kensi Blye). Photographed alongside Ruah are NCIS’ Brian Dietzen (Jimmy Palmer), Hawai’i’s Vanessa Lachey (Jane Tennant) and Kian Talan (Alex Tennant), and New Orleans’ Scott Bakula (Dwayne Cassius Pride) and CCH Pounder (Loretta Wade).

“Today was strong and necessary. To all the @iatse & @dga members and supporters of @wgastrikeunite & @sagaftra I am so grateful to have walked alongside all of you today. Saw so many people I have loved for over 14 years coming together again in strength,” Ruah wrote in the caption.
