Fans are excited about this prequel series to NCIS. It will focus on the origins of Leroy “Jethro” Gibbs. And some other fan favorites from the NCIS universe may pop in.

News that NCIS would be getting a prequel, fittingly titled NCIS: Origins, was exciting news for fans of the franchise. This series will focus on Gibbs’s early days as an agent and no doubt give some insight into how he crafted all his rules.

NCIS: Origins, and its structure, make it unique in this popular franchise. And while actor Mark Harmon won’t be playing Gibbs on screen, he will narrate the procedural, which is set in the 1990s.

Viewers will see a young Mike Franks. He was the team leader and formed a deep connection with Gibbs. Their respect and affection for each other were obvious whenever Mike popped up on NCIS. Another blast from the past is Special Agent Vera Strickland. She was Mike’s partner at one time and made one appearance on the flagship series. Plus we will see Gibbs’s father, Jackson, and viewers will hopefully discover more about their complex relationship.

Which two other favorites may appear on NCIS: Origins?

TVLine reported that two other characters from the NCIS universe may appear in the newest spinoff. According to co-showrunners Gina Monreal and David North, they may add 1990s versions of Hetty Lange and Dwayne Pride. North stated, “I don’t think we want to say no to anything.”

As you may recall, Dwayne was at the helm of the team on NCIS: New Orleans. Meanwhile, Hetty ran the Office of Special Projects on NCIS: Los Angeles. This series has opened up a way for familiar and popular characters to be reimagined.

Austin Stowell will portray Gibbs on NCIS: Origins, while Kyle Schmid will play Mike Franks. Rounding out the cast is Robert Taylor, who will portray Jackson, and Vera will be played by Diany Rodriguez. The new series is set to debut on Monday, Oct. 14, 2024. In the meantime, you can catch up on the original series by streaming it on Paramount+.
