How Alexis Davis pressured her daughter on GH.

General Hospital had no idea Molly was interested in having a baby. Molly had no idea she was interested in having a baby. Until Molly found out she couldn’t have a baby. And then Molly suddenly, desperately needed to have a baby. NOW. We plot Alexis’s youngest daughter on the couch to find out why exactly this became such a life-or-death issue.

Molly Lansing-Davis

The first thing any therapist with a diploma on the wall will tell a suffering patient is that nothing they are going through is their fault. It’s their mother’s fault. However, in Molly’s (Brooke Ann Smith) case, Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) is definitely a factor.

Alexis raised her daughters on the mantra that a woman can do anything she puts her mind to. And then lived a life demonstrating the opposite. Alexis has failed in every romantic relationship she has ever attempted. Alexis lost her beloved law career because she made several stupid decisions. Alexis is a failure. And her kids watched it all happen like a slow-motion car wreck.

Good as Gold

Molly is her mother’s golden child. She is not the criminal Sam (Kelly Monaco) is, or the screw-up Kristina (Kate Mansi) is. Molly picked up the subliminal messages her mom has been sending her since Molly was in the womb: Molly needs to be perfect and live the life Alexis always wanted for herself, to prove that all of Alexis’s values were correct…even if Alexis failed to live up to any of them.

Molly Lansing-Davis: Model Majority

Molly went into the law and had a better career than her mom. Molly has a better relationship with TJ (Tajh Bellow) than Alexis ever had with anyone. And now all Molly needs to do is have a baby to prove that Alexis was right: A woman really can have it all.

So when the medical results came out that Molly might never be able to have a child, she felt like she’d let Alexis down. And by letting Alexis down, she’d let down all of woman-kind. She’d promised her mom she’d be better than that.
