“Jillie and I get along pretty well,” Tom Selleck said. “We don’t do anything or make any decisions unless we consult with each other.”
His macho looks have always made him appear to be the tough guy in the room, but Tom Selleck is a shy guy who gets “tongue-tied” when it comes to romance.

Even when he was younger, he was always too shy to give women “hints.” According to the New York Daily News, Tom Selleck said, “I used to leave little hints in people’s yearbooks.” “They were minor hints, but to me, they represented a significant commitment. ‘Hope I see you this summer, your friend, Tom,’ he said. ‘I love you, and I’ve worshiped you from afar all year,’ I thought.”

Despite his shyness, he was able to find the woman of his dreams, Jillie Joan Mack, and have a happy marriage with her. When he was filming Lassiter in London in 1983, Selleck became obsessed with the musical Cats and would constantly tell his co-star, Jane Seymour, how great the show was.

According to People, Jane Seymour said, “I thought it was good, but I couldn’t see going back a dozen times.” However, Jillie Joan Mack, who was a part of the show, was Tom Selleck’s true obsession.

“They had dinner one night and it went from there,” her London agent, Bryn Newton, explained. After her contract expired, she moved to America to be with Tom Selleck, and everything in their lives began to fall into place.

Tom Selleck quietly transitioned from PEOPLE’s sexiest man in the world to Mr. Happily-Committed-And-Married in 1987. They were both extremely nervous about getting married and used different names for their secret wedding, ‘Tom Jenkins’ and ‘Suzie Mark.’

The minister had no idea who was getting married until 10 minutes before the ceremony started. “They were both nervous, just like any other couple getting married,” the Rev. David Immel said. “He was very concerned that the service be heartfelt, that the service be meaningful for her.” He is a very warm and caring individual.”

Tom Selleck had one and only one priority from the start, and that was his family. He decided to take a step back and focus on his family just as he was climbing the success ladder in his career. He put his acting career on hold so he could be a devoted husband and father.

They built their own little world on a private ranch so he could be away from the hustle and bustle of Hollywood and raise his family. “I left Magnum to start a family,” he explained. “It took a long time to get off the train, but I work hard to maintain balance, and this ranch has helped me do that.”

Tom Selleck and Jillie Joan Mack both wanted the best for their daughter, Hannah. “My first priority is time with my family,” Selleck says.

He’s been married for over three decades, and the secret to his wonderful relationship is being completely committed. “It’s critical to nourish your marriage,” he said. “I think wanting time away from work has helped.”

They’re all in this together, and nothing has changed that. “Jillie and I get along pretty well,” Tom Selleck said. “We never do anything or make any decisions without first consulting with one another. And if one of us makes a decision involving Hannah, the other parent, even if you disagree, fully supports that decision.”

Tom Selleck has always shown his wife love and respect, and they’ve always had an equal marriage, and he’s never been afraid to put his career on hold for his family.
