Fans have gotten a lot from “Blue Bloods” over the years. The police procedural has been thrilling fans who wish to follow the exploits of the Reagan family for more than ten years with its twists and turns. With Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck) as commissioner keeping his officers in check and his offspring serving in a variety of capacities to keep criminals off the streets, the Reagan family has done a lot for New York over the years.
However, with so many seasons and over 250 episodes under its belt, it’s understandable that some aspects of the show have irritated fans.
Characters and dynamics change over the course of a TV show’s run. Some of these are met with enthusiasm by viewers who want things to stay fresh even after a show has reached its tenth season or so. Other times, changes are met with skepticism from fans who simply want things to stay the same and for a show to remain as it was when they first fell in love with it. This phenomenon has fans wondering about one aspect of Frank in particular.
Some fans don’t understand why others like Frank
It’s natural for fans of any show to favor one character over another. People may relate to a particular character’s story more than others. Still, a sizable portion of the “Blue Bloods” fan base refuses to accept that there are people who like Frank. “[I] am on season 7 ep 20 and Frank has become so insufferable,” one Redditor began a thread inviting people to express their displeasure with Frank. “Who exactly does he think he is?” They go on to say that Frank frequently sees himself as the be-all and end-all, and that his actions border on hypocritical of what he’s supposed to stand for.
“I’m on season 11, and find each of the characters to be doing/saying things a little out-of-character from before,” u/ItsTheLittleThings wrote. Now that you mention it, the things you mentioned are correct.” Some fans are so annoyed by Frank that they have threatened to stop watching the show altogether, with one user saying, “Frank makes me want to drop the show from my watch list.”
While the thread may be upsetting to some, it’s important to remember that this is a small sample of the millions who watch “Blue Bloods” on a regular basis. While Frank may irritate some viewers, there are plenty of other characters to root for.
