If you’re a Blue Bloods fan, you’ve been waiting to see how Jackie’s long-anticipated appearance plays out for her and Danny’s relationship. Here’s what the S13 finale really meant for the two.
Season 13 finale summoned a long-anticipated appearance of the fans’ favorite character, Detective Jackie Curatola.
Long ago, she was the woman the entire Blue Bloods audience wanted to get together with Danny Reagan: the two of them had fantastic chemistry and complemented each other really well.
After Jackie was gone from the show, it’s been years of hopeless waiting for her return, and the leak about it finally happening excited everyone.
Along with many fans, we even went as far as assuming she and Danny will get together after all these years, but we were wrong: Jackie’s return had a different purpose.
Despite leading a shared investigation with Danny Reagan, Jackie didn’t take up as much screen time as we’d hoped.
The case they were working on wasn’t closed by the end of this season’s last episode, so we can at least assume one more episode with Jackie will come in season 14, but that’s beside the point.
Admittedly, Jackie was there to settle once and for all that she and Danny will never be a thing, thus addressing the years-old hopes of many fans.
Instead, she did something very different, and basically pushed Danny toward forming a relationship with Maria Baez — another wonderful woman fans have been suggesting for Danny.
As Jackie and Danny were saying their goodbyes to each other, she nudged him to follow her example and find his own happiness.
As Baez was in a car nearby, she witnessed their farewell. When Danny joined her and she asked if he was OK, Danny looked thoughtful. “I’m exactly where I want to be,” he replied.
We can’t help but feel that’s the beginning of a new arc in Danny’s life as his former colleague’s words pushed him to the realization that he’s ready to move on and form a new romantic bond.
Since he just said his goodbyes to Jackie and was sitting next to Maria, we think that “where he wanted to be” meant he wanted to be with her.
Blue Bloods season 13 finale cemented the fact that there will be no Danny and Jackie. But it definitely gave many of us new hope — that next season, Danny will finally admit his feelings to Maria Baez.
This couple would totally make both of them happy… And we’re not even mentioning all the excited fans who’ve been waiting for it.
